Catch Up.
Well, what has happened since we last blogged? The last blog was 'landofmygrandfather.blogspot.com', based on our motorhome trip around Wales in September 2020. The coronavirus pandemic was still around but restrictions were fairly relaxed at the time. Much water has passed under the bridge since then with more coronavirus, more lockdowns and more limited travelling. I know you know all this stuff but when we read this blog in 20 years time we might have forgotten the context of this period!
On a personal note we have had managed holidays this year along the Galloway coast of Scotland and then to Anglesey and Snowdonia. Janice and I climbed Snowdon and then on my 60th birthday we climbed Ben Nevis to complete the three highest peaks of the countries of the British Isles. We have also squeezed in a French holiday in September this year, getting to the beaches of the Gironde and the rivers of the Dordogne. After having foreign travel restricted for such a long time it was great to get away for some sunshine and French food....sorry I didn't blog but take it from me, we had a great time.
On an even more personal note, we have two more grandchildren (in addition to Oscar), Lily was born in February this year (sister to Oscar) and Janice's son and partner had a little boy named Henry just a few weeks ago. The celebrations have been tempered by the loss of Janice's Dad recently. We also caught covid but whilst the effects the lack of taste and smell lingered we weren't too badly affected. Thank goodness for the 'quasi ineffective' vaccine!
Having had a busy autumn we felt it was a good time to get away and replicate our Spanish winter trip to Spain. We may run with the bulls, drink the rioja and eat all the paellas!
Here's a photo from our last trip to Spain in 2018. I think I stayed too long as the palm trees are growing out of my head! The blog was titled 'vernonvuelta.blogspot.com'.For those who have never read our blog we are Richard and Janice from Cumbria....we are young retirees who enjoy travelling and silly adventures in our motorhome. We cycle around to explore the towns and countryside looking for history and amusing anecdotes but most importantly tasting the the local delicacies and drinking the local tipple.
Our ferry crossing is booked for 30th November from Portsmouth to Santander. So, the blog will start for real as we set off from home....probably the 29th Nov. The blog site has changed so you won't get email subscriber messages but you can log onto the blog and catch up whenever you are ready. I may even send out a reminder email when we get started.
